Beyond Walls - Digital experiences for Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities
© James Hope-Falkner 2025
Founded in 2016, we create nature-based films & photographs for hospitals and healthcare settings, designed to reduce stress and enhance the emotional atmosphere of clinical spaces.
Each work is carefully tailored to the needs of patients and staff, helping transform ordinary walls into moments of peace & tranquility.
Over the years, Beyond Walls (formerly Accademia) has delivered measurable improvements to clinical care and in the emotional well-being of patients, staff, and visitors where its installations are in place.

Virtual Windows at Great Ormond Street Hospital
Great Ormond Street Hospital challenged us to build “Virtual Windows” into rooms without any access to natural light in their new facility for patients’ family and staff.
For this project, we installed large, hospital-compliant window frames featuring 4K HDR screens, integrated media players, and built-in power supplies. This long-format content is designed to support healing by alleviating the effects of claustrophobia and sensory deprivation often experienced during extended stays indoors.
The Zoo at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital
CW+ commissioned us to produce a series of single-screen installations to be displayed in treatment rooms in the newly redeveloped Children’s Emergency Department at Chelsea & Westminster hospital. We proposed a series of 100 portraits featuring wild and domestic animals (tailored by ward) which would form a 'Living Zoo' digital installation.
Landscape filming (photo & video diary)
An ongoing series of video landscapes and genre scenes for single screen installation in hospitals and healthcare environments.
Films are currently exhibiting in Chelsea & Westminster - Great Ormond Street Hospitals in London - The John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford), Royal United Hospital (Bath), Royal Victoria (Newcastle), Norwich University Hospital, Milton Keynes University Hospital & Bedford Hospital.
